IMPORTANT SEGWAY REQUIREMENTS:

Ferry to Alcatraz and Alcatraz Island Tour

After a short 10 minute ferry ride from Pier 33 across San Francisco Bay you will arrive on the infamous Alcatraz Island. The tour includes a movie of Alcatraz history and a 35 minute audio headset tour of an Alcatraz cell block.

Cruise aboard the ferry to the infamous and notorious former federal prison - home to the likes of Al Capone, George "Machine Gun" Kelley, and Robert "The Birdman" Stroud. The National Park presents a captioned orientation video with historical footage, self-guided walks, exhibits and Ranger-interpretive talks on topics such as "Famous Escapes." Also featured is an Award-winning audio tour in the prison Cell House with actual interviews of former guards and inmates - available in six languages - English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish.

To reach the Cell House, you must walk up a steep hill. In addition to the famous prison, Alcatraz features some of the most spectacular views of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge from the beautifully landscaped Agave Trail.

After the tour there is time to visit the Alcatraz Museum, the bookshop and explore the island. Stay as long as you like ferries depart every 1/2 hour back to San Francisco. Average time spent on Alcatraz is 1 1/2 - 3 hours.

Please note: The walk to the Alcatraz Cellhouse is on steep, uneven pavement. Sustainable Easy Access Transport is available, free of cost, for wheelchair users and visitors unable to walk up the quarter mile, 12% upgrade. No animals, except certified service animals are allowed on Alcatraz Island.

Segway Tours depart from the rear parking lot at 757 Beach Street near the corner of Hyde Street. Located across Beach Street from the Hyde Street Cable Car turn around in Fisherman's Wharf. A Wells Fargo Bank ATM is at the entrance to our training area. Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled tour time. Detailed directions and maps of the meeting location will be provided upon confirmation of your Segway Tour.

Who can ride a Segway? Are Segways safe for children or people with disabilities?

Riding a Segway is similar to riding a bike-it's intuitive but nobody is born knowing how to operate it. That's why the tour includes 40-45 minutes (estimated) of training so you can get familiar with riding a Segway.

IMPORTANT Rider Requirements:

Segway riding is not recommended for pregnant women. Unfortunately, pregnant women will not be permitted to participate. All guests must be age 12 or older and weigh between 100-250 lbs. (46-115 klilos) No refunds if you do not meet these criteria. Riders under 18 must be accompanied on the tour by a parent or guardian.

All guests must be able to easily and quickly step on and off the Segway without any assistance, which requires physical abilities similar to climbing and descending stairs without assistance or use of a handrail. You will be standing for 2 hours.

A Segway is not an ideal mode of touring for people with some mobility issues. You will be standing for 2 Hours. Please call if you have questions. This activity is not recommended for guests age 70 and up.

The Segway is not appropriate for those weighing under 100 pounds or over 250 pounds (46-113 kilos.) Helmets and reflective vests are provided and required.

Rules of the Road for Segways in San Francisco: Segways are not allowed on sidewalks in San Francisco. We only offer guided tours. We use a combination of designated bike paths and low speed-light traffic streets to conduct our guided tours.

We stress courtesy, rules of the road and common sense when riding a Segway in the city. The San Francisco Electric Tour Company advocates safe tour routes, careful Segway use and detailed rider education. ALCATRAZ FERRY AND ISLAND IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

• Alcatraz Ferry departs from Pier 33 along the San Francisco Embarcadero. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to your departure time for boarding.

• On-street parking in the Fisherman's Wharf area can be hard to find, and nearly every space has a parking meter. Parking meters take nickels, dimes and quarters. Commerical Parking: There are fifteen commercial lots with a five-block radius of the Alcatraz Landing at Pier 33, with a total of more than 3,000 parking spaces. The closest and most convenient lot is at 80 Francisco at Kearny, just one block away, across the Embarcadero from Alcatraz Landing.

• Handicap Accessibility: Visitors unable to make the climb up Alcatraz's roads may take advantage of SEAT - Sustainable Easy Access Transport - an electric shuttle that meets each scheduled arrival at the Alcatraz dock and transports visitors requiring mobility assistance from the dock to the prison building. SEAT returns visitors requiring mobility assistance from the prison building back to the dock at regular intervals throughout the day. Visitors requiring mobility assistance may be accompanied by one attendant in their party if space is available. Families with small children and strollers cannot be accommodated on SEAT. The following areas are completely wheelchair accessible: Alcatraz dock area, Prison building main floor, All bookstores, Museum displays and Island theater.

All customers will be required to review and sign our tour agreement and liability waiver before starting their tour. The San Francisco Electric Tour Company assumes no responsibility for delays caused by accidents, breakdown, bad conditions of the road and other conditions beyond control, in addition to insufficient numbers of guests. Not responsible for loss or damage to property.

Changes to a Segway Reservation and Cancellation and No Show Policy:

Reservations require a full deposit via Credit Card. We will send an e-mail confirmation of the date and time of your tour. Deposits are fully refundable if the reservation is canceled 3 days -72 hours or more prior to the scheduled tour. We have a limited amount of Segways. No Shows are charged in full. The deposit WILL NOT be refunded for any reason within 72 hours of your scheduled tour. A signed liability waiver is required prior to your tour departure.

It is your responsibility to be at the designated tour location on the correct date. Please check your confirmation carefully. No refund for no-shows.

Tour Size, Routing and Weather:
We reserve the right to change the size or routing of the tour to meet demands for that specific day. San Francisco is famous for the fog! Our tours run fog, light rain or shine. We always suggest multiple layers of warm clothing for any San Francisco activity. Summer afternoon temperatures can be in the 50's. Rain gear is available for those infrequent rainy days. Segways are designed to run in any weather. If seasonal fog or weather obscures the view, tour routes may be altered. You will not be charged if we cancel a tour.
